Minutes of the meeting of the Councils of Blessed Gérard Care Center and the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard held on Thursday, 07th August 2008 Present: Fr Gérard Lagleder OSB, Deacon Thomas Müller, Dr PZT Thabethe, Miss Susanne Stauffer and Mrs. N Thabethe. An apology was received from Fr TS Gamede Meeting opened with the prayer of the Brotherhood at 20h00 The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Mrs. N Thabethe, proposed by Fr Gérard and seconded by Dr Paul There were no matters arising: Reports on Projects 3.1 Blessed Gérard’s Care Center Practical completion of the Care Centre took place on the 06th of June 2008. 3.2 BG Hospice (BGH) On the 26 of June 2008, Johan Viljoen visited HAART clinic. Dr Nzimande and Fr Gérard attended a SA HIV Clinicians Society training session at the Nelson Mandela Medical University in Durban. On the 18th of July, Mr Wiseman Zulu, a therapeutic counselor, was hijacked in the grounds of BGCC while returning from Home visit. 3.3 BG Children’s Home (BGCH) It was reported that 15 children were placed under the care of BGCH by the Commissioner of Child Welfare on the 15th of July 2008. On the 21st of July, all children were invited by Boswell Circuit in Mandeni. 3.4 Friendship club No report The Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard 4.1 Pre-Primary School and Crèche The envisaged development that might take place at Mangete, where BGPPS&C is built was discussed. Since there was no certainty on this matter, the meeting resolved that the Mandeni Local Municipality be approached. 4.2 Malnutrition clinic The number of babies helped from our clinic is steadily increasing. There are over 45 babies attending the clinic. 4.3 First Aid and Emergency Services The Brotherhood has rendered First Aid Services at the ordination of Bishop XT Kumalo, Bishop of Eshowe, on the 06th of June 2008. The Diocese of Eshowe has further requested that the Brotherhood provide First Aid at Fatima pilgrimage. It was decided to evaluate whether or not we could invite St John Ambulance to render Basic Ambulance Assistant training course. 4.3 Bursary Fund, Relief Fund and Poor Sick Fund It was reported that the Brotherhood assisted a number of families whose homes burnt down and lost everything. 4.4 Human Resource Management and Membership Miss Tanzin van Moerkerken started work as a personal assistant to the President on the 09th of July 2008. On the 14th July, an Enrolled Nurse, Ntombifuthi Cele started work in the Residential Care Program of the Hospice. On the same day, Mrs Khensane Mthiyane started work as an educator in the Children´s Home. On the 15th of July Mr Sibusiso Mabika started work as a driver and general assistant. On the 1st of August PRN Thandi Bhengu started work in the Residential Care Program of the Hospice success. 4.5 Administration (including finance) On the third of July SAPPI donated R100,000,00. It was decided to donated our unused caravan to Mrs. Caroline Beaumont. 4.6 Networking and Affiliates. On the 17th of June, Mrs. C Beaumont attended HPCA Fundraising Workshop. On the 08th of July, Fr took part in the AGM of HAKZN. On the 10th of July Amra Chakravarti and Karen Hinton from HPCA gave for a preliminary talk about re-entering COSASA accreditation. On the 26th of July Fr Gérard takes park in the investiture ceremony and rededication service of the Priory for South Africa of the Order of St John in Johannesburg. On the 29th July Fr Gérard was named a “Paul Harris Fellow” by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International by request of the Rotary Club of Mandeni. 4.7 Public Relations Fr Gérard gave interview to the Radio Horeb. 4.8 Governance and leadership Deacon Thomas Müller rendered his resignation from the Councils as he was leaving South Africa. The meeting accepted his resignation and thanked him and his wife for valuable contribution that they have made in the Brotherhood. The Feast of St John the Baptist was celebrated on the 22nd of June. It was decide to change the organizational structure of our organizations as per attached organizational chart. The SMOM Audit Report of Dr Benner was discussed extensively. The report was commented on and changes already done were also reported. Closure The meeting closed with a prayer led by Mrs N Thabethe.
